How to make a strong New Year Resolution
Note: I will be talking in the context of your fitness goals.
Action speaks louder than words
This is an age-old proverb and everyone must have heard it a thousand times before.
Yet we are still making new year resolutions and announcing it to the world. And that too in such a way as if we have already achieved the resolution.
Let this year’s resolution be a silent one
No need to make a fuss out of it. Everyone knows what your resolution will be and how long you are going to stick with it. Because they know you.
Let this new year be a change.
First things first, the resolution you make should be something you really desire and want to achieve.
Let this year be a year where you will not make a resolution for the world to know. But a pledge that you will follow. Internalize it. Give it your time, love, and attention that it deserves. Let it consume you.
Does it sound like too much for you? If yes, then you are already up for failing.
And if you are really committed to fulfilling this promise to yourself, then you should be prepared for the journey ahead.
There will be days of skipping or losing track of the goal. The road to success is never a straight path. And you will be naive to think that you will not be facing any challenges. Yes, you will be going off track here and there. But it should not be an excuse to let the whole resolution go down the drain just because of one or two lapses.
Don’t beat yourself up and declare yourself a failure. Expect it to happen. Nobody knows what the future holds for us.
The resolution should be seen by people at the end of the year when they will start seeing the changes that they thought would never be possible for you to achieve.
Your resolution is your baby
When you make a resolution it is just a thought that your mind has conceived. It holds a lot of hopes and potential for you.
This new resolution is just like a newly born baby. It needs your protection, care, and nurturing before it can stand on its feet.
So, as soon as you make the resolution, don’t announce it to the world.
Right now, it is just a baby in the cradle. You can’t expect it to defend itself against all the pointing, doubting, and ridiculing thrown at it from all sides.
It’s your baby. Do you expect it to fight alone? The baby is looking helplessly at you and you know it’s already too late. And the resolution you made dies before it could even learn to walk or speak. And the story will repeat all over the next year.
This should be the year of change. This year you will stand in front of your baby. It’s your duty and responsibility to protect it with everything you have. To let it grow and become strong. Do not put it on a display. Do not talk about it.
Let it grow and become strong
Water it with your positive thoughts. Nurture it with your will to succeed. Let it gain strength. Then you will no longer have to worry whether you will stick to your resolution. That is to say, your resolution becomes your habit. You no longer have to think about it.
Once it gains the strength it will help you grow as a person. You will become the resolution. And a motivation for others when they look at the changes you were able to achieve.
So, What’s your New Year Resolution? 😀
